Whenever you add a domain as hosted in some account, you normally set a pair of Name Servers to direct it to that particular service provider. On their end, 3 records are created automatically the moment the domain is added - one A record and two MX records. The former is a numeric address, or IP address, that “tells” the domain name where its website is, while the other two are alphanumeric and they indicate the server that manages the e-mails for that specific Internet domain. The site and the e-mail hosting are often considered to be one thing, when they're actually two different services. Having different records for them will enable you to have them with different companies if you wish. As an example, some new service provider could have fantastic uptime for your website, but you might not want to switch your emails from your current host and by using an A record to point the domain name to the first and MX records to have the e-mails with the latter, you will get the best of both companies. These records are checked when you wish to open a site or send an e-mail - in either case, the company whose name servers are used for the domain is going to be contacted to retrieve the A and MX records and if you have set records different from their own, the right web/mail server will then be contacted and you will see the needed site or your e-mail is going to be delivered.

Custom MX and A Records in Web Hosting

If you have a web hosting account from our company and you want to move either your website or your e-mails to another provider, it's going to take you literally only 2 mouse clicks to do this. Our Hepsia CP comes with an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domain names and subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically and you will be able to see and modify the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you want to use a different email provider and they ask you to create more MX records than the standard 2, it is not going to take more than a few mouse clicks either to add them. You can even set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the greater the priority a given MX record is going to have. The propagation of every record that you modify or set up isn't going to take more than several hours and if necessary, you will also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, that shows how long a record will stay active after it is modified or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

Accessing and modifying the A or MX records for each of your domain names or subdomains is very easy if you purchase a semi-dedicated server plan from us. The accounts are managed via our in-house built Hepsia CP, which has a section dedicated to the DNS records of your domain names. The latter is going to be listed alphabetically and you may click on any one of them to see both the A and the MX records. Editing any record will be as easy as typing in the new one in a text box and saving the change, so even though you may have never dealt with such matters before, you'll not encounter any problems if you decide to move your website or e-mails to a different provider while keeping the second service with our company. If needed, you could also set up additional MX records and set a specific priority in accordance with the recommendations of the new provider.
